In 1886 he joined the artists’ camp at Box Hill near melbourne where produced many fine paintings. Streeton was perhaps the first Australian painter to persuade Australians thattheirs was a golden landscape of leisurely rivers, blue sky, and blue-shadowed eucalypts with a unique, indigenous beauty.
Streetons first success was Still Glides the Stream which he sold to the Art Gallery of NSW in 1890. More than any other painter of the Heidelberg School, Streeton convinced Australians that English oaks and elms were not the sole prequisites of excellence in landscape painting.
