Austria’s most prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) had everyone raving about his famous golden technique in creating work of art back in the early part of the 1900’s. He made a series of paintings using various shades and hues of gold. They called this Klimt’s Golden Phase.
One of his highly acclaimed paintings is called “The Kiss” which he painted in 1907. It depicted a couple in an embrace sharing a kiss. What makes it so unique is the play of different shades of gold against a backdrop of bronze. A vision of rectangle, flowers and tangent circles are evident in the couple’s clothes. A reproduction in canvas can be found in our online gallery.

Among the many Post-Impressionist painters, Vincent Van Gogh could probably claimed that he is the only one who has inspired a mainstream pop hit song long after he’s gone. Who would not have heard of “Vincent”, the Don McLean’s song inspired by one of Van Gogh’s most popular work of art, “Starry Night“?
It is one of the most reproduced and replicated art. This famous painting was made back 1889 when Van Gogh was in the Asylum at Saint-Remy. It was said to illustrate what he saw from his small window inside his mental institution room and painted it during the day from memory. Starry Night is considered to be his greatest masterpiece, his magnum opus. Today, you can visit Museum of Art in New York City to view the original. However, our online gallery has reproduction in canvas of Starry Night if you want to purchase your own copy.

The Franco-Prussian War in the 1860’s has made it difficult for Pierre-Auguste Renoir to gain recognition even after he started exhibiting his works at the famous Paris Salon in 1864. It took him around 10 years after that to be able to get some appreciation and acknowledgement.
Just like the other leading impressionists of their time, Renoir studied at Charles Gleyre studio where he met other famous painters such as Monet, Sisley and Bazille. With such illustrious company, how can he not produce amazing results?
Renoir was noted for his use of saturated colors along with vibrant light and his use of people as subject of his paintings. He loved to capture candid and intimate situations. continue reading »
