There are but a rare few who could give a creative Christmas gift such as an original Monet or a trip to Giverny. However, a Monet famous reproduction is an awe inspiring, affordable piece of art history.
The Monet ‘Water Lilies’ sequence contains about two hundred fifty paintings by the French impressionist painter. The series depicts Monet’s Giverny garden. The paintings were created during Monet’s final 30 years of life. During this time period, the artist was afflicted with cataracts.
Subsequently, he underwent lens removal letting him see ultraviolet light. This is the explanation of why the series is done in blue colors. Blue hues are easier on the eye and lend a fresh feeling. A famous reproduction including these blue hues would be an excellent creative Christmas gift during this warm season in Australia, cooling the tones in a room and perpetuating the Monet history.

Tom Roberts Paintings - Australia’s most Famous Impressionist Painter?
The famous artist Tom Roberts, whose ‘Shearing the Rams’ oil painting captured Australia’s imagination, was our foremost impressionist painter.
Interesting facts about Tom Roberts:
- At the time of his famous ‘Mentone’ and ‘Bourke Street’ paintings he occupied a small studio now occupied by the Myer Emporium.
- He was born in Great Britain 1856 and only came to Australia in 1859
- Frederick McCubbin was a great friend and fellow famous artist
- He stayed at the same artist camp as Arthur Streeton, in Box Hill, Melbourne
- His most famous painting Shearing the Rams is currently on display at the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria)
