About Poppy Parade
Five red poppies run across a wide putty-grey field, three grouped at centre-left, one cropped at the top right corner and one more cut off at the lower right edge. A small unopened bud sits on a curving stem at the right. The petals are laid on with a palette knife in flat, angular slabs of scarlet, each facet catching light along its ridge, with darker crimson in the folds. Fine gold and ochre dots mark the stamens at the heart of each open bloom.
Thin black stems drop from the flowers in loose, dripping lines that fade before they reach the base, and the grey background is scraped in short horizontal and vertical strokes so the weave of knife marks stays visible. The painting is graphic and calm, with the sharp red shapes doing all the talking against a quiet neutral ground.
Built for a long wall: above a sideboard in a dining room, over a low sofa, or along a hallway. The putty-grey ground sits easily with white, stone or greige walls, oak and walnut timber, and linen upholstery. The scarlet picks up red cushions, rugs or ceramics without needing any other colour in the room. Browse more panoramic wall art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
